PINE, EASTERN WHITE

Botanical Name: Pinus Strobus


Eastern White Pine is very soft in texture, light weight, and light in color. It is pale yellow to a light cream in color. Different parts of the tree is used for different types of woodworking. The main trunk of the tree is called D Select and contains a minimal amount of small knots. The upper part of the tree is classified as Furniture Grade Pine. It contains a great deal of large but tight knots and is the grade of choice in many forms of woodworking. It is nicknamed "Knotty Pine" .
Eastern White Pine is used for cabinetry and millwork. It is also utilized by woodworks as pattern lumber.

The Eastern White Pine Tree is a beautiful landscape pine widely used throughout much of North America. This evergreen conifer tree is a truly magnificent tree attaining a height of 80 feet at maturity with a diameter of two to three feet. It carries long, soft bluish green needles with large brown cones. Eastern White Pine trees are widely used as a screen or windbreak. It grows rapidly for a pine tree and is pyramidal shaped when young, becoming umbrella-shaped with age.
